Penny’s Picks: Real Reviews from the Holler

Welcome to Penny’s Picks—a no-fluff, no-fuss blog series where I share honest thoughts on the tools, supplies, and systems I actually use to run my shop, create my products, and keep things moving in the holler.

I test everything in real conditions: rural internet, limited access, tight budgets, and a whole lot of creative grit. You won’t find affiliate links or sugar-coated praise here. Just straight talk about what works, what’s worth the money, and what’s better left in the cart.

Expect reviews on things like:

  • Design tools (Silhouette Studio, Canva, and whatever else I wrangle into working)
  • Sticker paper, printers, and photo setups that survive Appalachian humidity
  • Subscription traps, hidden fees, and rural access headaches

And when nothing fits? I build my own. Because sometimes the best tool is a spreadsheet and a stubborn streak.

I’m not an expert—just a cheap maker with a sharp eye and a lot of trial-and-error under my belt. These reviews reflect my experience: what worked for me, what didn’t, and what I’d actually use again. Your setup might be different, and that’s okay.

There’s no set schedule—just check back when you feel like it. If I’ve tested something and have thoughts, I’ll share them. If I’ve found a gem, you’ll hear about it. And if something’s a total flop, well... I won’t hold back.

Feel free to leave a comment if you’ve used the tool, have a better workaround, or need help figuring something out. I love hearing how other makers make it work—especially when the budget’s tight and the sass is strong.
