Simple Steps for Cleaning Your Silhouette Cameo Auto Blade
June 2026
Cleaning the auto blades is simple and straightforward. I clean mine about once a month, though I've heard that some people clean theirs every time they use it — and some never clean them at all and just buy a new one. I guess it all depends on your time, your budget, and how much you want to put into maintaining your blades. Setting aside a few minutes every so often really doesn't take that much time, and it keeps everything cutting the way it should.

What You'll Need
● The little wrench that came with your machine
● A couple of cotton swabs
● Aluminum foil
● A poker or toothpick (optional — handy for packed caps)
How to Clean the Blade
1. Use the wrench to loosen the cap.
2. Twist off the cap with your fingers.
3. Inspect the inside of the cap and blade housing.
4. Use the cotton swabs to clean out any debris in both the cap and the housing.
5. Use the foil to clean and "sharpen" the blade. Some people say you can't sharpen the blades because the metal is too hard — but the foil also removes any adhesive residue, and it works for me. Please do not use acetone on the blades. It melts the plastic.
6. Screw the cap back on using your fingers. Hand tighten only. Do not over-tighten — it will damage the blade.
That is it — all there is to it. Quick, simple, and easy. It took me less than ten minutes to clean four blades.
Thank you for being here. Have a great day.
